Resumen:
After the first biosensor, based on the use of an enzyme, the scientists realized that the biorecognition events that regularly occurs in nature are an important model to design biosensing platforms and to synthesize molecules able to mimic the biorecognition capability of biomolecules. This chapter is focused on the critical discussion of the following biorecognition elements: i) biological molecules like enzymes, antibodies, nucleic acids, lectins, antimicrobial peptides and phages, ii) synthetic molecules like nucleic acids analogues, aptamers and molecularly imprinted polymers, and iii) tissues and bacterial cells.
